Step 2- Goal Setting Workshop

1. Personal Developement

Step 1:
Write down everything that you would like to improve in your life that relates to your own personal growth. Brainstorm for a minimum of 5 minutes and do not at any time stop writing, just write down everything that comes to mind. Dont worry about details and dont worry about reality, just be a free spirited open minded person that can accomplish anything without failing, and write it down. Here are some ideas to consider:

What would you like to learn? What are some skills you want to master in your lifetime? What are some character traits that you’d like to develope? Who do you want your friends to be? Who do you want to be?
What could you do for your physical well being? Get a massage and Chiropractic adjustment every week? Create the body of your dreams? Join a gym- and use it? Compete in a triathalon?
Would you want to conquer a fear? Learn to speak in public? Learn to swim? Learn to speak French? Learn an instrument?

Step 2: Now take a minute and give a time line to each and every item that you listed.

Step 3: Chose your single most important one-year goal in this category

Step 4: Take two minutes to write a paragraph about why you are absolutely committed to achieving this goal within one year……This is the most important step in my opinion, if you have a strong enough “why” then you will stick through all of the difficulties that you come across while trying to reach your goals!

2. Career/ Business/ Economic Goals

Follow the exact same steps 1-4 as above. Some idea joggers are as follows for step 1 are: How much money do you want to earn? If you own a business, what goals do you have for your business? Do you want to start your own business? What do you want your net worth to be? When do you want to retire? What are your money management goals? What investments would you like to make? How much money do you want to save? etc….

3. Toys/Adventure Goals

Same steps 1-4 as above….some memory joggers: What would you like to build, create, or purchase? Cottage, Castle, Beach House, Sailboat, Yacht, Island, Sports Car, Helicopter, Plane, Art collections…. What would you like to attend? A broadway play, A concert, The Superbowl….Where would you like to visit? Who would you like to meet?

Just go crazy with the toys! This one is the most difficult for me, but also the most fun when you open up to think about it!

4. Contribution Goals

These can be the most inspiring goals of all because this is your opportunity to leave your mark and create a legacy by changing the lives of others. Follow the same steps 1-4 as above. Some thoughts:
Would you like to give more to your church? Build a homeless shelter? Volunteer? Take balloons to an retirement home? Clean up the beaches? Eliminate racial discrimination? Protect animals? Invent a solution for “global warming”?…

Follow these 4 steps for the above 4 categories…..and we will take the next step tomorrow

  1. If you’d like a tool for setting your goals for 2010, you can use this web application:

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A Vision Wall (inspiring images attached to yor goals) is available too.
    Works also on mobile.
