Don’t Become A Statistic….Start Today

Hello Everyone,

Today I would like to talk about a problem that is totally preventable that every single one of you will experience….unless you decide now to prevent it.

This problem is one that leads to over 100,000 deaths per year.

Again, for the most part, this problem is totally preventable.

Ok, ok, so what is this big problem?  Here it is…..the drum roll please….

Over use of prescription medications!

Did you know that at least 100,000 patients die each year from medical error?  This is the number (and I feel it is a very conservative number) of patients who were given the “correct” treatment, at the “correct” time, for the “correct” diagnosis…and still died.

Why is this?

It is critical that you understand that all medications, whether over the counter or prescription are in fact chemicals.  And when you put a chemical into your body, there will be a chemical response.  That is the whole purpose, to cause a chemical reaction.  It is called betterliving through chemistry.

But lets look at what is really going on, when you take a pill to supress a symptom, what you are doing is overriding your body’s natural defense mechanisms.  In the majority of cases, a symptom is a warning sign that something is off and not working right, and when you suppress the symptoms (yes even cold symptoms) through the use of chemistry, you do cause damage to the human body.

Now there is a time and a place for medication…. I am not a medication nazi…just as an example, my wife has asthma, and I would never want her to be without her inhaler.  There are times that  medication can be lifesaving….but there are times when lifestyle changes and nutritional changes can in fact address the cause of your health issue, repair your malfunctioning body, and add quality of life to your years.

So what do you do?

Well, first of all….start focusing on the lifestyle factors:

1.  Regular appropriate exercise.
2.  Follow a proper primarily whole food diet
3.  Get plenty of sleep
4.  Maintain a positive mental attitude and manage your stress
5.  Keep your nervous system functioning with regular chiropractic adjustments…even if you are not in pain.

If you do the above, you will build the body’s natural strength and be able to lead a life of health and vitality.  If you have any questions, please call our office at 850-862-2224.

I would like to end with some data from “Generation Rx How Prescription Drugs Are Altering American Lives, Minds, and Bodies” (Greg Critser, Houghton Mifflin Company, 2005, Page 2)

American Prescription Drug Use:
“The average number of prescriptions [drugs] per
person, annually, in 1993 was seven.

The average number of prescriptions [drugs] per
person, annually, in 2000 was eleven.

[The average number of prescriptions drugs per
person], annually, in 2004 was twelve.

The total number of annual prescriptions [drugs] in
the United States now stands at about 3 billion.

The cost per year is about $180 billion, headed to an
estimated $414 billion by 2011.

Pretty soon, you are talking real money.”

So today try to figure out what you can do in each of the above lifestyle categories to prevent yourself from becoming another statistic.

Have a great day!
