Make A List of Priorities

Hello Everyone,

I would like to apologize for not sending out any blog entries last week, we got backed up because the floors were wet and we had to close th office Monday evening, which totally threw off the rest of the week.

I appreciate the emails from everyone asking where their emails were.  I get a kick out of the fact that our practice community is so tight knit and I really enjoy the input that I receive from all of you.

Today I want to talk a little about priorities….

Have you noticed that the more technology that comes out to save us time, the fewer hours there seems to be in a day.  We have so many time management tools and technological advances that are supposed to make life so much easier and more efficient.  I don’t know about you, but the more efficient I get, the busier I get!

Then it hit me, it is all about priorities.  There is so much information out there, and there is so much to do….it is very easy to fill our day with tasks that do nothing for us.

What do I mean?

Well, I was talking to a patient the other day who is in depserate need of regular exercise.  Her life would change dramatically if she would only undertake a regular exercise program…but her complaint is that she doesn’t have time, not even 30 minutes per day.

This patient has no children, she is married and doesn’t work because her husband earns a good living.  In otherwords, she doesn’t really have any committments.  When I began to question her, it turns out that she has to get her 12 hours of sleep per day or she is a bear (in her reality), she is an expert on television shows such as Jersey Shore, The Race, and American idol.  She is also majorly involved in some online world video game and spends several hours per day on face book.

Now I am all about entertainment, and just letting go, but those are the things that you do after you have done what is important for the day.

Well, how do you determine what is important?

You make a list!

Think about it, make a list of what your priorities are….your health…your spiritual developement….your family….your career…whatever is important to you.

After you make that list, you can then evaluate your activities based on the list, and see if how you are spending your time is moving you towards your goal.

Then don’t do the things that aren’t important to you…ANYMORE!!!!  See how much time opens up in your day.  See how your life changes.

Remember…you cannot manage time…it is a constant….but you can manage activities.

Have a great Monday,

Dr. Sean Price
