And Finally…We Have To Be- Healthy

Hello Everyone,

Good morning.  Well, today will be the last “way of being” discussion.

To be honest, I have saved the best for last.

We all know that you can have the greatest of intentions, but if you don’t have the vehicle to deliver those intentions, it all goes for nothing.

For example, you intend to be there for someone you care about…an important recital, or a birthday celebration, or anything special… and you get in your car to go, and sure enough the car won’t start.  Come to find out you haven’t maintained your car.  You haven’t changed the oil, filled it up with gas, checked the tires, and before you know it your car won’t take you anywhere.  Now you are stuck, unable to contribute to anyone.

Well, the same goes true for your body.  So the final way of being is “Being Healthy”

So how do we define health?  The definition of health is “Optimal Physical, Mental, and Social well being, not just the abscence of disease or infermity.”

I had a conversation with someone close to me a few years ago who was giving me a hard time for our lifestyle choices (we tend to do things differently then everyone else, in case you haven’t noticed 🙂  and she was telling me that it was ridiculous all of the things we were doing…I mean…look at her, she didn’t do any of those things and she was “healthy”

Now I am not one to confront someone who is not interested help, so I let her comment slide…but I found her definition of “healthy” to be interesting.  You see, she had recently had her gall bladder removed, a hysterectomy, was very over weight, and had just spent several days in the hospital after suffering from a mersa infection….all of this after just being diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition.

So what did she mean by health?  She meant “right now I don’t have any symptoms”

So based on the definition above, the absence of symptoms is not enough to define health, we have to have all three factors…optimal physical, mental and social well being.

So how do we acheive this?  To make it simple, we focus on 5 areas of our lives.

1.  Get proper and adequate exercise
2.  Eat a healthy and whole food diet
3.  Maintain a positive mental attitude
4.  Get good high quality and adequate rest.
5.  Maintain a healthy nervous system through regular Chiropractic adjustments.

I will go over each of these lifestyle factors over the next 5 articles.

Have a great day!
